Have you ever gotten a computer virus?

If so, which virus, and were you able to get rid of it yourself?

I'm not sure, but I have caught many viruses at work (I was in IT, that was part of my job) and some at home. I do the same thing both at work and at home. I just wipe the computer clean, reinstall the operating system or load the image of the computer back. Reloading the image takes 6 to 10 minutes. I always have a backup of personal data I may need.

I think I got one once....but malwarebytes always takes care of everything. My daughter got some early one when she and her friends all started using the computers but I was able to clean her system after doing some searching on my computer on how to do it. One of them was hard to do, but I got it.

Couple times, around 20 years ago. South Park virus, among others.
Never anything basic antivirus or quick googling couldn't handle. Worst was one that made Windows system directory (system32 back then, maybe?) invisible.
I don't remember if it was the same one where I had to use DOS boot to copy explorer.exe, then go to Windows to clean the copy with antivirus and again DOS to copy the cleaned file over the infected (because it's really impossible to do anything in Windows to the file that is always used).

It's rather amazing how long I've gone without any. Maybe it's because my systems have always been so outdated. Kind of worries me, now that I finally have a Windows 11 computer...
