Many years ago, I had a bread maker, and I used it all the time. At $3-$5 a loaf at the store it won't take long to realize the cost of the bread maker. However, mine broke, during a bread making session. I liked it even though mine made the bread vertical, it looked like a large muffin and my sandwiches looked a little strange and there was also a hole in the bottom from the agitator.
I never replaced it. I bought a heavy duty stand mixer than kneads the dough and a proofing oven that keeps the dough a constant temperature and humidity for a good rise. I also took breadmaking classes to learn how to make many types of breads.
But the bread maker is easier.
