When and why did humans begin to wear clothing?

The first step would probably be having some kind of blanket to have on you while sleeping, as nights are the cold time. From that a cape to carry with you.

Well.

TODAY.... I was out cutting and drilling steel to put a new bumper on the lawn tractor.

I was wearing clothing because metal splinters are very unpopular.
