I find it impossibly improbable that life would've appeared only in one place of the billions upon billions of star systems. Or rather, EXACTLY in one place - odds for zero or considerably more than one are literally astronomical.
That probably goes even for just this galaxy, the millions of others.
And while intelligent life can be argued, life in general has lasted here for, what, billion years or at least half. That's a good chunk of the age of universe, you can't argue to the possibility that life would come and go too fast.
And as the evolution of universe keeps creating more and more of heavier elements, probability of life should get greater the older universe gets (aside heat death of Big Crunch).
The real question is, can any life in universe reach another, intelligent or general (carried on rocks etc).
That might not be possible. While I'm certain life exist somewhere out there, humans may well never see any.
